The History of the Building

 

The northern edge of this property was part of the northern boundary of the Bingham-Baring estate.

 

Rebuilt about 1891 after a fire.

 

“late Queen Anne style house of Pompeiian brick, large picture window; stuccoed third floor, red metal hipped roof, small arcuated windows with columns over entry. Architect: J. C. Worthington

1891, Aug. 6, Philadelphia Inquirer: “A. J. Boyden has made plans for the reconstruction of the house at 3309 Hamilton street.”  The contract was awarded to Frank Vogdes

 

1898-‘99 Blue Book: Mr. & Mrs. Wm. M. Sample.  William was a member of the Powelton Club. (For a brief history of the club, see the Powelton History Blog.)

            In 1900, they lived at 3404 Hamilton.            In 1920, they lived at 3502 Hamilton St.
