The History of the Building

 

3320-3322: “Circa 1865, Italianate three-story double, originally may have been single residence. Building is stuccoed, originally bracketed wood cornice. 3222 has original porch and windows; 3320 has circa 1950 major alterations to fenestration.”

            Samuel was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Col. of Pharmacy. He died in 1907 at the home of his son, J. Wilmer Henszey at 3216 Baring St. Samuel's father, also Samuel C., was a prominent banker. Joseph Henszey attended Friends Central and Drexel and began working at Baldwin Locomotive works. After 26 years there he had moved from foreman to chief inspector of locomotive construction.

            In 1891, they lived next door at 3322 Hamilton St.

 

1895, January: Edward and Cecilia Brill purchase the property from her father, Francis K. Shippen (3313 Baring St.) for $5,000 which included a mortgage of $3,000.

            In 1930, J.W. and Henry were living in a large boarding house in Germantown.

 

1920, June 14: Marriage of Helen Allen Jones to Cash Edmund Drake, 26 years old, of Rochester, Washington, son of George and Eva Drake.  They were married by Rev. Robert Johnston of the Church of the Savior (Protestant Episcopal), 38th and Chestnut Streets.

 

1930:
