Built c1867 by Jacob Haines.  He was born in Württemberg, Germany about 1810.  In 1850, he was working as a baker in Philadelphia’s North Ward.  He and his wife, Eliza, had five children.  By 1860, he owned real estate worth $20,000 and was retired from baking.  In 1870, they lived at 1113 Green St. and he listed his occupation as “builder."  In 1880, they lived at 1406 N. 18th St.  He apparently built 3501-3507 Hamilton St. and 3501-3503 Baring St.

 

3501-03: “Second Empire-style, two-and-one-half story stone double with side porches and entrances. First floor front projecting bays. S-shaped bracketed cornice; pedimented dormers; 3501 has slate shingles; 3503, asphalt.

            Sally was the widow of Owen Evans..  In 1857, he had a china store at 503 Market St. and they lived at “Kinsessing above Buist Lane” (probably the 6900 block of Kingsessing).  Owen died about 1857-’59.  In 1860, Sally and their children lived in Mantua (Ward 24, Precinct 6).  She listed her real estate holdings at $17,000 and her personal property at $300.  In 1880, they lived at 3712 Baring St.

 

1878, April 7: Death of Martha Mullen, 85 years old, of 3503 Baring St.  She was widowed  Burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.  (Phila. Death Index)

            Anna M. McAllister graduated from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania.  In the 1881 Directory, she was listed as an M.D. on the staff there.  In 1880, Elizabeth and Anna  lived with their parents, William and Anna J. McAllister, at 2045 Chestnut St.  Their father and four brothers were opticians.  Anna was listed as a “doctress.” (ED 164, 9)  In the 1895 Directory, Anan is still listed at 2045 Chestnut.  She organized a campaign to build the first hospital in Easton, Pa.  In 1900, Anna lived at 3626 Hamilton St.

            In 1920, the Clarks lived in Lower Merion where he was a chauffeur for a private family.

            Jean Whitelaw was the widow of William Whitelaw.  In 1920, they lived in Lansdowne, Delaware Co. where he was a warehouse manager.  In 1910, they lived in Sharon Hill, Delaware Co. where he worked as a grocery clerk.

 

1940:
