The History of the Building

 

Sarah J. Troth purchased a property from Rush J. Whiteside June 15, 1887 (270? 177)

 

3603-05: “Circa 1885, two-and-one-half story brick double; gabled front with: slate shingles and wood bracketed surround for two- registers; surround removed from 3603. Porches removed.”

            In 1880 they lived at 1019 Cherry St.  Alice was the widow of Samuel F. Troth, a retired merchant.  Her son, Samuel, lived at 3309 Baring St.

 

1892: “Alice Troth. Died 8/19/1892, age 88. Widow of Samuel F. Troth. Member of Western District Monthly Meeting of Friends, Philadelphia.” (The Friend, 1893. vol. 66 pg.56)  She was born in New Jersey.

            “Harold Wierenga.  Harold Wierenga, 91, of Annapolis, a retired mathematics professor at the Naval Academy, died of natural causes Nov. 7, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

            “Born in Cawker City, Kansas, Mr. Wierenga graduated from Kansas State University and taught in Kansas high schools for several years before moving to Philadelphia, Pa., and teaching at Drexel University.

            “During World War II, he worked at Westinghouse in Philadelphia and after the war, moved to Oklahoma to become chairman of the math department at Central State College in Edmond.

            “He arrived in Annapolis in 1948 where he taught at the Naval Academy until he retired after 27 years.

            “A lifelong naturalist, he was a longtime member of the Maryland Ornithological Society and the Anne Arundel Bird Club. He spent many happy years exploring Anne Arundel County, and traveled widely with his family throughout the United States as he pursued his hobby of photographing birds, wildflowers, butterflies and other aspects of nature. He enjoyed the numerous slide shows he gave to local garden clubs and bird clubs.

            “He was a longtime member of the Naval Academy Golf Club, and an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer of the Sunday school for many years.

            “In 1939 he married Vivian Snapp, of Salina, Kan., who died Dec. 23, 1996.

            “Surviving are two sons, John R. Wierenga of Odenton and Harold L. Wierenga of Arnold; a daughter, Susan Zotter of Portland, Ore.; and three grandchildren.” (http://www.genealogybuff.com/md/state/webbbs_config.pl/read/207)

            According to her 1923 application for a passport, Florence Kelso Oudesluys was born in Baltimore in September 14, 1865.  She was married in 1887 to Louis Oudesluys who died in 1918.  She was living in Baltimore.
