3701-19: “Circa 1880 two-and-one-half story Second Empire style doubles; stone facade over brick. First-floor Victorian porches; some altered-(3703, 3705-07, 3709, 3719); four registers, slate- shingled mansard (3701, 3705-07, 3709 asphalt); slightly arched dormer windowheads. All built by the same developer.”

1876, June: Deed to 3711, 3713, 3715, 3717, and 3719 transferred from Joseph Campion to Life Insurance Company American.

1876, June: Deed to 3713 and 3715 transferred from Louis M. Simpson to Alexander William.

            Alexander Whilldin was owner of a company that sold in cotton, wool and yarns at 126 Chestnut St.  In 1881, he lived at the corner of N. 15th and Jefferson.  Isaac Hazlehurst was a lawyer with an office at 508 Walnut St. and living at 2020 Spruce in 1881.

            “In artistic work honors have been fairly earned by the following:... William C. Bispham (75), animal painter...” (History of the Central High School of Philadelphia.  Franklin Spencer Edmonds. 1902. P. 301)

            Mary Elizabeth Bispham married Israel Bowen, April 29, 1891.  They were married by Rev. H. Morton Reed of New York, at the residence of her mother, 3322 Walnut St.

            Francis Morrison Bispham married Eleanor Burkhart Shedwick, April 25, 1893. They were married by Rev. Dr. Armstrong, rector of St. Andrews's Church, at the residence of the bride, 3410 Wallace St.  She was Eleanor Freeland, the widow of Henry Clay Shedwick who died in 1886.  In 1880, they lived at 622 N. 34th St. (Mantua).  He was the son of John Shedwick, a builder who built many homes in Powelton.

            In May, 1910, they purchased 3416 Hamilton St.  He died in February, 1912.

 

1920:

Martha Douthirt                      54        Parents born in Ireland; owner with a mortgage

Katharine A. Douthirt             48        Sister, teacher in city school

Mary J. D. Smith                      56        Companion, widow

            In 1900, they lived at 2041 Vine St.  Their mother, Martha was born in Ireland and was 66 years old.   She had borne 5 children; 4 were surviving.  She owner that house free of a mortgage.  The 1891 directory lists her as the widow of Samuel.  It also lists a Samuel Douthirt [Jr.], a bookkeeper, at that address.  The 1881 Directory lists Samuel [Sr.] as a weaver.  At that time, they lived at 2036 Fairmount Ave.
